"The 26th Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta in Sussex New Brunswick. September 9,10,11, 2011 . "Atlantic Canada's Most Colourful Festival". Featuring 30 Hot Air Balloons flying twice daily. At dusk each evening, the Balloons inflate for a Magic Moon Glow. Be sure to visit our renowned Craft fair with over 70 Atlantic crafters and artisans, All weekend the Atlantic Superstore Outdoor Bandstand features a variety of top Maritime talent. In conjunction with the festival are Amusement & Helicopter rides, lots of food vendors & children's games. The Antique Car Show & Shine with over 500 vehicles, takes place on Sunday afternoon. On the weekend after the Canadian Labour Day, the people of the Sussex area prepare to receive thousands of guests, as the next Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta begins. Organizers have been working all year to host Atlantic Canada’s most colourful festival, and 2011 marks the 26th year of this wonderful family event. An undertaking of this size only happens with many volunteers and our fiesta is no exception. In fact, many volunteers are the 3rd generation to lend a hand for a heartfelt thank you, a t-shirt and the chance of a ride in a hot air balloon.
The Sussex Balloon Festival Inc. volunteer committee relies on sponsorship and vendors to finance this free festival, and the hard work and dedication of approximately 230 volunteers to make balloon fiesta weekend a success year after year. With the support of our regions landowners, graciously allowing us to land on their fields, as well as, the generous support of the business community, visitors come from all over to soak up the feel good energy of our festival.
We welcome visitors from all over the world. We have welcomed volunteers from as far away as France and balloonists from Brazil. Sussex received world renown in 2003 when balloonist David Hempleman Adams left from Sussex in an open basket hot-air balloon and flew over the Atlantic Ocean to land safely in Blackpool, England 83 hours later.
Our fiesta has enjoyed many accolades over the years including; Atlantic Canada’s Community Choice, Tourism New Brunswick’s Top Festival, and the American Bus Association’s Top 100 North American Event...our favourite compliment is the smiles on the faces of our guests as they gaze wondrously at the spectacular sight of giant multi-coloured balloons ascending into the skies.
